Okay ladies, today we have a lesson in how to combine things. It’s a short lesson, just two examples, really. Two very good examples. And they’re both thanks to the Spring 2013 Oscar De La Renta bridal collection. Shall we begin?
Sometimes combining a lot of different things can be great. Take our Hit, for instance. It’s got sheer tulle, ruffle-like layers, floral applique, and a heavy lace. Instead of clashing, however, these elements find their common thread (romanticism) and create a pretty showstopping dress. It’s amalgamation at its finest.
So when doesn’t combining work? When you take a simple sheath in a very unique lace and bury it in half of a 1980s prom dress, like our Miss. Not only do we dislike the the stiffness of the tulle layers and the too bright/too pale blue colour, we keep feeling like we’re getting a weird sneak peek under the bride’s gown (and only the groom should get that!). We know high fashion often means provocative and unusual, but this is just too far from wedding friendly to make sense to us.
